Rocket League – WEL – Season Report

3rd Place Finish – Debut Season

In their debut Welsh Esports League season, S.E.A. Dragons made an immediate impact, claiming 3rd place and becoming the only team in the competition to take a game off eventual champions, Red Kites. The run was marked by strong individual displays, tactical experimentation, and a fearless approach against some of the league's most established sides.

Group Stage – Making a Statement

Match 1 – vs The Rejects (3–0)
The Dragons opened their WEL8 campaign with a confident 3–0 series win over The Rejects.

  • Game 1: A 4–2 win where the Dragons hit the woodwork multiple times. An unfortunate own goal by Itsyerfavcollie allowed The Rejects a way back, but goals from Steph (2), Fadey, and Itsyerfavcollie secured the result.

  • Game 2: Total domination — a 10–1 blowout. Fadey was the creative engine (2 goals, 3 assists), Itsyerfavcollieapplied relentless pressure (7 shots, 3 goals), and Steph was lethal with a perfect 4-from-4 shooting display.

  • Game 3: Officially a close 3–2, but the Dragons were testing unpractised scoring methods. Even with the altered approach, The Rejects couldn't capitalise.

Head Coach Connor "Faizye" Chittock reflected:

"Super proud of the team collectively and individually. We're the 'new kids on the block' in this competition, and people didn't expect much — but we showed we're here to compete. Game 2 especially was where we hit our stride, and even in Game 3 we were experimenting and still got the job done. Respect to The Rejects, they're a strong side, but we rightfully earned our 3–0 win on a 16–5 aggregate."

Match 2 – vs GOATS (0–3)
The second group match was against one of WEL's most experienced rosters. GOATS, former champions with years of team synergy, proved a formidable challenge.

  • Game 1: 1–5 loss — competitive early but couldn't maintain momentum.

  • Game 2: 1–2 loss — Dragons took the lead but couldn't hold on.

  • Game 3: 3–5 loss — multiple comebacks but just fell short.

Connor's thoughts:

"We knew this would be our toughest group game. GOATS have history and chemistry. We had moments of real disruption, especially in Games 2 and 3 where we led or fought back from behind, but we couldn't quite close it out. The result wasn't as important as the performance, and with both teams beating The Rejects, we progressed to the knockouts as 2nd in Group B."

Semi-Final – vs Red Kites (1–3)

The Red Kites entered as tournament favourites and went on to win the title, losing just one game all tournament, that game came against the Dragons. In what has already been called one of the tightest and most exciting WEL Rocket League match-ups in recent memory, the Dragons pushed the champions to the limit before bowing out 1–3.

3rd Place Playoff – vs Pit Ponies (Win by Forfeit)

The scheduled playoff never took place, as the Pit Ponies forfeited after recent closed-door scrims between the two sides. The Dragons were awarded 3rd place, a deserved podium finish in their debut campaign.

Season Highlights

  • Only team to take a game off the champions, Red Kites.

  • A 10–1 statement win over The Rejects.

  • Fadey's playmaking, Itsyerfavcollie's relentless pressure, and Steph's clinical finishing stood out across the season.

Final Word from Coach Faizye:

"From start to finish, we've been performance-driven, not results-driven. The boys represented themselves and the club incredibly well. We achieved our goal of reaching the knockouts, and to finish 3rd in our first season is something to be proud of. This is just the beginning."
